Cycling in Cornwall and Devon

Cycling from the park is for ‘enthusiasts' only as every way out is up!

Camel Trail

The Camel Trail is a disused railway track along the Camel estuary and so is virtually flat. It is very safe for riders of all ages and picturesque, especially the Padstow to Wadebridge section. Bikes are available to hire in Padstow and at Wadebridge. Fish and chips from Rick Stein's ` chippie' at the Padstow end of the trail are delicious.

Glynn Valley trail

The Glynn Valley trail is also a disused railway (although a short distance is on the road) and virtually flat except for two short sections which are very steep. There is a pub at the Moor end of the trail, which serves excellent food. Just before the pub there is a 0.5 mile tunnel with a bend in it. It is not possible to see one end of the tunnel from the other. Normally there are Iights in the tunnel but occasionally these are not working and a torch is useful.

Tamar trail

The Tamar Trails are 25km of new and improved trails which have been created as part of the Tamar Valley Mining Heritage Project. They open up parts of the Tamar Valley that were previously not accessible to the public.

The Project celebrated and told the story of the Tamar Valley’s rich mining heritage, which forms part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site (WHS) and is located within the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), through a new network of trails and paths.  Through the project conservation work has been undertaken within a large area that contains mining remains and important wildlife habitats.

Drakes trail

Drake's Trail in West Devon is a 21 mile cycling and walking route linking Tavistock with Plymouth. This important part of Devon's recreational route network runs through superb countryside with attractive scenery along the western edge of Dartmoor together with much historical and heritage interest.

But the trails aren't just about Drake - they take you through wooded river valleys and across open moorland, up close to fascinating wildlife and history.

New sections of Drake’s Trail include iconic features such as Gem Bridge, replacing an older viaduct, and Grenofen Tunnel. The Trail also includes the long-established Plym Valley Trail, and creates a network of safe and easy cycling and walking opportunities for all the family to enjoy.
